Getting ads to work with my HTML5 game compiled into a APK using CocoonJS was a task that was pretty easy, but also had a couple confusing steps that I will try to clarify. The first thing you will need to do is become a "Premium Member", although this is free. You simply apply for it with Ludei, and then wait for them to respond that your account has been changed to Premium. For me, this only took a day and in the meantime, I configured my Admob and Mopub accounts and learned how to implement the ads.
Hello, my name is Bill and welcome to Ascended Arcade! This is my online indie game repository and development blog for web-based games by myself and Ascended Arts. Ascended Arcade will be the home of my web-based games and blogs describing my trials and tribulations of making them. Lately, HTML5 game development has become a hobby of mine as web browsers have become powerful enough to allow for media-rich web applications that can be quite easy to create. In the future, I hope to have user accounts for high score leaderboards and other rankings for fun!

My initial cut of Mutant Zombie Monsters 2 is now online. Currently, there are 10 levels with 15 unique weapons to mow down zombies with. The idea of this game is to be a very simple and easy to play zombie platformer with a variety of levels and weapons to have fun with. I am currently working on fixing bugs and optimizing it for phones and tablets. Touch screen buttons are displayed on mobile devices. Let me know what you think!
texturemate.com is a great resource for free textures and patterns for video game development. All textures and resources there are completely free for gamedev's to include into their games! A lot of the textures are already seamless as well, which cuts down on a lot of time. Texturemate is updated quite often and already contains thousands of free textures.
Good News! Bionic Battle Browser Bots is a featured game once again on Google's Chrome Webstore. Along with more players comes more feedback and large numbers of users are reporting that the game can drop to unplayable framerates of 2 fps or so and the background tiles appear with blurred borders. I have traced this to the HTML5 shadowblur properties of the shadow API. This cool feature helps different html5 elements in the game look nicer with blurred shadows and not much extra graphic or coding work, BUT....
The results of the Beauty of the Web HTML5 Contest are in! Bionic Battle Browser Bots received an honorable mention award! Considering some of the competition and quality of other submissions, I am glad with that result. I was notified by Microsoft that my prize will be a 250 Gb Xbox 360 and a Kinect, very cool!
As HTML5 games get more popular, various sites have popped up to provide collections of HTML5 games or media-rich canvas demos. Some of these sites may pick your game up on their own or you will want to submit your game if you can. They also may contain user reviews and voting, which will help you improve your game. Each site will send a bit of traffic to your game and help increase the amount of people that play it. I will try to keep a collection of sites that will spread the word about your game here:
I finally decided that Mutant Zombie Monsters at 320 x 240 pixels is just too small, so instead of redoing the artwork and sprites which would take a very long time, I implemented hqx upscaling to the game. This upscaling method has been used on some other ImpactJS games instead of neighest neighbor upscaling because things tend to come out smoother and not as "boxy". hqx was originally developed for the ZNES emulator in C but is now ported to JS.
